What does it mean?

Let's use Abstract Art as an example:

33"/6", Mid, Dorm, Dip

33" = height; 33" from ground to blossom

6" = width of blossom

Dorm = dormancy; can be dormant, semi-evergreen, or evergreen. Evergreens should be mulched prior to winter.

Dip = ploidy, a genetic term important primarily to hybridizers; daylilies are either Diploid or Tetraploid.

Descriptions in italics are taken from American Hemerocallis Society registration descriptions

(or in the case of lost registrations and seedlings, our own physical description); descriptions

in regular text are from our observations in our own gardens (and our opinions!). Colors and growth habits can vary according to climate zone, soil nutrients, amount of sun/shade and rainfall, and other variables. Our photographs portray our daylilies as they appear here in our Zone 5b gardens (unless otherwise noted).

(Munson 76) is the name of the hybridizer and the year the cultivar was registered with the AHS.

(Dhabi's garden name, lost regstration) signifies a registered cultivar that we've grown for years, long before we realized the importance of keeping track of registrations. These are still beautiful, proven daylilies that perform well and multiply year after year.

(Dhabi's, unregistered) describes one of our own exclusive seedlings that we've trialed for at least two seasons, usually more, and it has proven to be hardy in our climate, beautiful, and dependable. We reserve the right to register these.
